We did not travel lightly to Guam. How could you? This isn't a long vacation, this is a one-way ticket move to an island. I'm not trying to rough it.
Yes, the rolling bags have plastic wrap around them. They were so full and we were afraid they might burst open. We learned this trick in Mexico. Also, the movers inexplicably didn't pack our roll of plastic wrap, so we had it on hand. Maybe they knew what they were doing after all.
We flew Hawaiian Airlines to Honolulu. I love this airline. They actually feed you a meal and give you a snack with a cocktail. Yes, please! We had all three seats in the row - that made the flight much better also. It was great to have room to stretch out a bit.
It was nice to already have a routine for the layover in Honolulu. We headed to our sushi spot to grab some food and headed to the gate to get our boarding pass for the flight. With our boarding passes in hand, we got a beer at the bar and waited for our flight. We tried to see if we could spot Henry's crate getting loaded onto the plane, but we never spotted him.
We flew United again to Guam and had the two seats by the window. Again, it makes such a difference to have your own space in the row. We were thrilled the United entertainment app still had The Knick so we watched the remainder of the episodes for season 1. The flight was very uneventful, those are the best kind. We made our way to baggage claim with about 1/4 of the plane. The rest of the passengers were continuing on to other destinations in Asia. We were hopeful our bags had made it, but we were prepared to file a claim and pick them up the next day. It was pretty exciting to see the first of our bags to come out, they all made it!
We got our rental car and headed to our Airbnb. We had driven by the place during our house hunting trip in January so we knew where we were going. I'm so glad we did that. It helped ease stress levels a bit.
The rental is conveniently located down the street from a grocery store. That made dinner the first night very easy.
Inside the rental, it is fine. The kitchen is small, but will do. We have a full size fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and a coffee maker - all brand name appliances (we think). There is a table with four chairs. The living area has a couch and love seat and a good sized TV. There are two rooms and one bathroom. (I can't wait to move into our place with 2 bathrooms.) There are several canvases adorning the walls, including two identical, metallic zebra faces. The most important feature? Wifi. And it is actually pretty good.
The area surrounding the rental is not ideal. We're kind of slumming it. There is a symphony of roosters every morning starting around 4:30am and it continues most of the day. They are right outside the kitchen window. I haven't been able to get a good pic of them. We'll post some soon. Sometimes it is so loud I think they are actually in the living room. Surprisingly, Henry is not phased by this at all. Us on the other hand, it is not helping us sleep past 4:30-5:00am. We need to work on that...
The complex is so loud. The noises range from children playing, screaming children, parents yelling, cars driving by, music from other units, conversations outside our unit and construction work. We were very spoiled with our little house in AZ. If I didn't appreciate it at the time, I do now! It might be a challenge for Jonathan to work here. I know it would be for me...
Walking Henry has turned out to be a pretty stressful situation. There are many stray dogs in the area who will bark and kind of approach you as you walk by. This makes me unbelievably nervous. I think I need to start walking with the broom. I wish I was joking. I'm not sure I will walk Henry alone. Then there are the dogs who are owned and are either tied up or in the fenced area of the house. These do not seem like nice dogs. All of their barks sound pretty scary. The entire walk I am desperately hoping the rope doesn't break and the others can't clear the fence. We found a new route this morning that is a bit better. We're looking forward to moving into our house and leaving this neighborhood behind.
Over the last fews days, we have been running errands to set up our life here. It's going well so far. We have yet to get in the ocean... Hopefully this weekend! But we have squeezed in a cocktail with an umbrella!

We walked along the beach in Tumon on Thursday evening. It is so pretty! And full of matching tourists taking pictures.
