MANILA!

One of the main reasons we decided to move to the middle of the Pacific Ocean for at least two years was the travel potential. Our exploring in this region has begun!

Because Manila is only a 4 hour flight away, it is a perfect long weekend destination. Because we had limited time, we only scratched the surface of Manila. But it was great. We had tasty dinners, walked a ton, got to do some shopping and enjoyed a massage. We didn't try as much local food as we should have, we were on a mission to find restaurants similar to US mainland. Manila delivered!

Backyard Banana Tree Life

We have many banana trees in our back yard and Jonathan has assumed the role of caretaker of the trees. I know nothing about caring for a banana tree, but I think he is doing a great job.

It's time to cut down the bunch since there are yellow bananas at the top

Jonathan using his machete to cut down the bunch.

Success!

Cutting off the ripe bananas before we hung the bunch

Jonathan trying to rig a support system for the leaning tree

It was partially successful. I think this lasted 30 min.

Cutting down a tree. Once it produces a bunch, it is time to come down.

Many previously unused tools have been very useful on this island.

First Quarterly Trip to Marshall Islands and American Samoa

I completed my first work trip to the Marshall Islands and American Samoa in May. Three weeks was a long time to travel, but it was a good trip. I really enjoyed meeting the staff in my programs and seeing these places.

Photos aren't allowed on Kwajalein since it is a military base.

I made it to Majuro!

Our sweet hosts sent us off with Marshallese gifts.

American Samoa

Thought I should take a selfie to prove I was actually there...

Papaya and toast with coconut jam - the best breakfast!

Enjoying my tea and watching the waves crash

Crashing waves at sunset

Watching the waves never got old. It was like watching water fireworks

Check out my puletasi! It was a hit with the program staff
